Role Overview: 

The Head Brewer will oversee all aspects of the operation process. This includes managing the operations team, ensuring the highest quality of production, and contributing to the creative development of new products. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of brewing techniques, a passion for craft beer, and strong leadership skills. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Beer, cider, seltzer, and spirit production.
  • Ensure that all QA/QC tests are performed and all products are in specification.
  • Production scheduling to optimize assets and personnel.
  • Leadership, personnel management, and primary point of contact.
  • Obeer/SAP and production data management.
  • Raw and packaging materials and finished goods inventory management.
  • Participate in new product development.
  • Producing high-quality samples to specification for R&D.
  • Ensure that all equipment and the facility are properly maintained, and perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Ensure all brewing operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Liaison for shipping logistics.
  • Liaison for taproom management and draft line support.
  • Authors and maintains SOPs.
  • Manages, coaches, and develops the brewery staff.
  • Leads continuous improvement and nonconformity root cause analysis.
  • Develop standards to ensure that all brewery areas are tour-ready at all times.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the manager.
  Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Brewing Science, Food Science, Chemistry, IBD Diploma in Brewing, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of professional brewing experience, with at least 2 years in leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of the brewing and packaging process.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or greater certification preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong leadership and communication skills (both verbal and written) are required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Great organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Self-starter – the ability to maintain workload independently without micromanagement
  • Willingness and eagerness to learn.
  • Ability to work in a production environment with exposure to heat, cold, humidity, and noise.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
