Job Summary: The Head Brewer is a regular full-time, salaried Operations Manager responsible for planning, directing and implementing all activities of the Brewhouse/Cellar department at Kona Brewing Hawaii in coordination with the rest of the Operations Leadership team .The Head Brewer is a position of leadership within Kona Brewing Hawaii and requires daily oversight of all Brewhouse/Cellar operations to ensure daily safety standards and production goals are met.

VP of Operations.
As a condition of employment, this position is required to work a shift that could include nights and
weekends.
Essential Job Functions:
- Support the company’s Statement of Purpose and Values.
- Support the company’s best practices for safety initiatives, and OSHA compliance. Supports safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Requires maintaining a safe and secure working environment within the Brewhouse/Cellar department at all times. Continually evaluates Brewhouse/Cellar SOP’s and standards of excellence regarding safety and production.
- Accountable for OEE, gainshare, Operator Based Maintenance (OBM), cleaning, continuous improvement and 6S for their functional area.
- Adhere to, promote and hold direct reports accountable to all company policies at all times.
- Ensure that all departmental material receiving information and production processes get entered in Beer 30 in a timely and accurate manner.
- Support with EOM inventory counts.
- Conducts performance assessments, implements recognition, training or corrective action as needed.
- Support in optimizing efficiency in brewing and cellar practices, procedures, and technical aspects of brewing operations.
- Displays effective communication on a daily basis with all employees, management, clients and vendors.
- In coordination with Human Resources, Sr Ops Mgr- Safety and Operations Training, Sr Ops Mgr- Brewing and Innovation, and VP of Operations, serves as decision maker in the hiring process for new Brewhouse/Cellar department employees. Anticipates future staffing needs and communicates such to Human Resources.
- Responsible for building and developing a team of employees in the area of brewing and cellar technical knowledge.
- Responsible for cost effective scheduling of all labor hours for department, including approving time sheets
- Support the Sr. Ops Mgr – Brewing and Innovation for recipe development and formulation for usage in all brewing systems.
- Direct training and performance evaluations of all supervised employees.
- Supports weekly and monthly inventory audits and reconciliation of overages/shortages of materials and assets.
- Responsible for ensuring just-in-time delivery of finished product to package.
- Proactively collaborates with Innovation, QA, Packaging, Supply Chain, Maintenance & Engineering, and KRRC managers/supervisors to ensure optimal efficiency in operations and product delivery.
- Collaborates with Sr Ops Manager of Brewing and Innovation and Sr Ops Mgr of Supply Chain and Logistics and capacity planning functions to ensure production goals and objectives are met, and timely shipments are realized.
- Is responsible for ensuring the brewing department meets customer demands and monitors performance against plans and adjusts as appropriate.
- Able to perform all required light maintenance on Brewhouse/Cellar department equipment and effectively teach employees as such.
- Must be able and willing to work a variable shift schedule that is dependent upon the operational needs of the brewery.
- Ability to frequently reach, twist, stoop, crouch, stand and walk for 8-10 hour shifts. Must be able to lift 50lbs. Responsibilities require 24 hours/7 days per week accountability.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
4 year degree in Food Science, Brewing Technology, Biology or similar degree program and graduation from an accredited School of Brewing. Similar job or work history with a minimum of 5+ years’ experience.
Or relevant work experience and graduation from an accredited School of Brewing. Similar job or work history with a minimum of 7+ years’ experience.
The candidate should possess a strong understanding of all areas of safety and production based Brewing standards.
Must be self-motivated, have excellent written skills, verbal communication, exemplary leadership skills and be a minimum of 21 years of age.
Candidate must be able to work under stressful situations unique to the manufacturing production environment of a production brewery.
This position also requires excellent time management skills as well as very strong analytical and problem solving skills. Candidates must be proficient in MS Office software including Excel and Word.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience as a Head Brewer, Brewing Manager or similar supervisory job role in a similar sized or larger brewery.
Applicants must be able to wear personal protective equipment and work in varying weather conditions that includes humidity and seasonal temperature changes.
