Reports To: Brewing Manager Exemption: Non-Exempt
Position Purpose: The Brewing Specialist ensures the production of high-quality wort, adheres to standard operating procedures, and contributes to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the brewing process. This role involves raw material handling, equipment maintenance, and problem-solving to maintain optimal brewing operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Wort Production and Quality Control:
- Ensure wort sent to the cellar is brewed according to all standard operating procedures.
- Meet quality specifications and production timelines.
- Develop and communicate remediation plans when necessary.
2. Raw Material Handling:
- Follow procedures for handling all raw materials, including malt, hops, and yeast.
- Ensure proper storage, usage, and documentation of raw materials.
3. Cleaning-In-Place (CIP) Procedures:
- Follow procedures for CIP of all brewing equipment and vessels.
- Schedule CIPs at appropriate times to maintain equipment cleanliness and functionality.
4. Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP):
- Execute weekly GMPs as directed.
- Identify and suggest improvement opportunities for GMP processes.
5. Process Optimization and Problem Detection:
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the brewing process and procedures.
- Quickly detect and address issues that arise during brewing.
- Optimize the brew schedule to enhance efficiency and output quality.
6. Downtime Management and Maintenance:
- Utilize critical thinking skills to create solutions during unscheduled downtime.
- Resume brewing operations promptly and efficiently.
- Execute brewing or brewhouse maintenance tasks during scheduled downtime as directed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- Minimum of 1 year in a brewing environment.
- Strong knowledge of brewing processes, raw material handling, and equipment maintenance.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
- Proficiency in using brewing and production management software.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
