Our small team works on a 2-vessel, 10 bbl direct fire brewhouse, and currently has (4) 10 bbl fermenters, (1) 15 bbl fermenter, (1) 20 bbl fermenter, (3) 10bbl serving tanks, (1) 15bbl serving tank, & (2) 7bbl fruiting/blending tanks.

Location: In person at our brewery & restaurant in Watsonville, CA.

Job Type: Full time ~40 hours/week, M-F

Pay Rate: Hourly, $22-$32/hour depends on experience.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Brewing: From weighing and crushing grain, to wort production adhering to a provided recipe and standard operating procedures, and ability to adapt and adjust processes to meet specifications.

Cellaring: Tank to tank transfers, vessel CIP/sani, dry hopping/fruiting, gravity & pH readings.

Packaging: Including canning, bottling, and kegging.

Cleaning: Maintaining a clean operation from top to bottom. From kegs on a 2-head automatic washer, to beer lines, to the floor. We clean, we get things dirty, and we clean again :)

Troubleshooting: Ability to correct any beer related issues, with a focus on learning from mistakes.

Maintenance: Assist with preventative maintenance of all brewery equipment and repairs as needed.

Record keeping: Maintain detailed, accurate, and legible records of all work performed, reporting to production manager, owner.

Experience & Personality Traits:

Ideal candidate has 1+ year beer, wine, cider, or distillation experience. A passion for beer, brewing, and experimentation, including an active interest in the craft beer industry and a desire to constantly learn and explore new techniques and ingredients.

Dedication to constantly improving and maintaining high beer quality.

A positive attitude and uplifting force for the team.

Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.

Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and organized.

Proactive and takes initiative.

Consistently polite and courteous.

Basic computer and math skills.

Good written and verbal communication is essential.

Mechanical experience (even outside of brewing) or laboratory experience is a strong plus.

Physical Requirements:

Standing: Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time (up to 8-10 hours per day)

Strength: Ability to regularly lift supplies and equipment up to 130 lbs (50L kegs with proper tools & equipment & assistance, bags of grain etc.)

Noise: Ability to work in an environment where noise level is usually moderate to loud.
Vision: Close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Personal presentation: Brewers are expected to maintain a level of hygiene that is presentable and inoffensive.  Includes handwashing, fingernail trimming, inoffensive and tidy clothing, short, covered or tied-up hair, neutral body odors.

Comfort: Ability to work on a ladder & in wet, tight, or cramped spaces.

Environment: Ability to work around hot fluids, pressurized vessels and transfer lines, variable temperature levels, carbon dioxide, moving machinery, slippery floors, walk-in coolers, and hazardous chemicals for a reasonable time.
